Karen Francis - Fused Glass

Karen trained to teach art at Bishop Otter college, Chicester and spent several years teaching in Hampshire, but now lives in Dorset where she works full time at her glass business.

Karen says “I am fascinated by the interplay of light and shadow, especially the effects of light on the sea and the way in which the colour of the sky is reflected in it.
I became interested in the effect of one colour upon another and how that is affected by the intensity of the light shining through coloured glass.
As a result I attended a three day intensive one to one course on stained and fused glass and discovered that working with hot glass is very exciting because there is always an element of surprise. I find that I eagerly await the moment when I can open the kiln and view the results of my latest firing.
The patterns and colours of the glass, coupled with the influences of the sea and my garden provide me with an unending supply of creative ideas.”
